Prayer Ministry

Southside Prayer Ministry

“To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.”

At Southside Church, we believe that prayer is not a spiritual accessory—it is the lifeblood of our walk with Christ. Through prayer, we draw near to our Heavenly Father, align our hearts with His will, and intercede for the needs of others with faith and thanksgiving.

Prayer saturates everything we do as a church—from worship and discipleship to mission and fellowship. It is both a personal discipline and a corporate practice, essential for every believer who desires to glorify God, grow in grace, and go forth in obedience.

What Is Prayer?

The Westminster Shorter Catechism defines prayer as:

“Offering our desires to God in the name of Christ for things that agree with His will, confessing our sins, and thankfully recognizing His mercies.”

A simpler definition we embrace is this:
“Prayer is aligning our will with God’s will.”

At Southside, prayer is not merely asking God for things—it is a posture of surrender and communion. It is where we listen, confess, rejoice, and intercede. We see prayer as the pathway to:

  • Glorify God in all things

  • Grow in Christ-likeness

  • Go in obedience, empowered by His Spirit and guided by His wisdom

Prayer Opportunities at Southside

Our prayer team gathers every Sunday Morning during the service time. This is a time to petition the Lord for different ministries and needs among the body of Christ and to intercede for one another and our church, at large, in prayer. This time is especially focused on interceding for pastors sharing the Sunday message, praying the Lord would have his way, and his will, for his glory, among each one of us.

Encouragement for Prayer

We invite you to deepen your understanding and passion for prayer by reading a classic message from Charles Spurgeon:

This powerful sermon reminds us that effective prayer is rooted in abiding in Christ and aligning ourselves with His purposes.
